To ensure a healthy pond environment, calculate the flow rate by aiming to circulate the pond's total volume at least once every two hours. Use this formula: Pond Volume (gallons) ÷ 2 = Minimum Flow Rate (gallons per hour). For example, if your pond is 1,000 gallons, aim for a flow rate of at least 500 gallons per hour. This helps keep the water fresh and the ecosystem balanced by efficiently cycling nutrients and oxygen.

• Clean up: Remove any dead leaves and debris to prevent decay and nutrient build-up.
• Adjust the water level: Top up the water level to compensate for evaporation.
• Balance the water chemistry: Test and adjust pH levels and other water quality indicators.
• Protect the fish: If you have fish, consider installing a pond heater or de-icer to maintain a small area free of ice for gas exchange.
• Cover the pond: Use a net or pond cover to keep out additional debris and protect the pond from harsh conditions.

• Trimming: Cut back dead leaves and stems to just above the base.
• Submerge: Move the lily pot to the deepest part of the pond if the water will not freeze at that depth. This prevents the roots from freezing.
• Insulation: If the pond freezes completely, or if you have a small pond, consider removing the lily and storing it in a frost-free place like a garage or basement in a bucket of water or damp sand.
• Reintroduction: Gradually reintroduce your lily to the pond in the spring as temperatures stabilize.
